Although a natural process, birth is sometimes traumatic for both mother and baby, Chiropractic may help you and your baby recover from any birth trauma, especially if forceps, or other medical assistance (even “normal” pulling on the baby’s head during delivery) was involved.
Studies show us a much higher prevalence of back pain in children than previously thought. In a study of kids aged 12-15 years old (Olsen et al., 1992, Am. J. Public Health) 30.4% reported a history of low back pain. Mierau and Cassidy (1984) found that 22.8% of elementary school and 33.3% of secondary school aged children complained of low back pain. So don't simply pass off a child's complaint of aches and pains as "growing pains" because there may very well be something real causing his or her pain.
Nowadays, parents do not think twice about the importance of regular dental visits for their kids. Check-ups are scheduled every six months to help prevent cavities. When you consider that children use their teeth only when they eat, yet they use their spine every time they sit, stand, run, crawl, play and move. Shouldn't they receive regular check-ups for one of the most important structures in their body?
There is evidence to show that chiropractic care has helped children with the following:

- asthma/respiratory function
- colic
- prolonged crying
- sleep and feeding problems
- breathing difficulties
- hyperactivity
- bedwetting
- frequent infections especially in the ears
- breastfeeding difficulties
- fevers
- sleeping problems
- epilepsy / seizures
- ADHD
- blindness
- increased immune function

Dr. Joe Hornback, a Tempe Chiropractor, who wrote this and allowed me
to post this on my site. I get the same comments about my son, which
is why I wanted to share his writing with you. Please do not perceive
this as anti-medicine. There is a time and a place for medical care,
but why let your health to that point? Enjoy...
When my children are down at my office, almost everyone comments on
how bright and vibrant they are. I always explain that yes, they have
had chiropractic from before birth (nine months of adjusting their mother).
They also haven't seen any doctor other than me since they were 7-10
days old. The response usually is, "you're just lucky." Sorry,
I don't buy into the "lucky" theory. I don't believe that
God randomly distributes good children and bad children. I think we
are given choices to make along the way and the outcome of children's
development is directly related to those choices. When we get together
with other chiropractors, we have lots of little vibrant human beings
full of life. We can't all be "lucky!" Maybe there's more
to it.
A survey was done a couple of years ago to find out about the differences
between the medical way and the chiropractic way. The study was performed
on children of medical doctors and the children of chiropractors. The
findings were pretty significant. Less than 91% of MD children were
allergy-free while more than 95% of DC (Doctor of Chiropractic) children
were without allergies. Only 26% of the chiro kids had tonsillitis compared
to 43% of MD's. Chiro kids had almost three times fewer
ear infections than MD kids (31% compared to 80%). Only
50% of the DC children had ever been on antibiotics while 90% of the
MD kids had. Only 10% of the chiro kids had been on other medications
while 30% of the MD children had.
I think the study is even misleading in the point that there are a lot
of pseudo-medical chiropractors out there who believe chiropractic is
only good for back pain. There are chiropractors that don't adjust children
under age 10 or 12. So if you take those out of this study, you'll find
that the children of "principled" chiropractors have an even
greater difference from the medical kids. That's why I am very proud
that approximately 30% of my practice is children. It is the greatest
thing I can do for human kind to teach the parents and ultimately the
children how to live a more natural, drug-free life. Children
are being drugged to death in this country, long before they are ever
exposed to street drugs. Tell people about chiropractic,
tell them to get their kids adjusted.
